“I am thrilled to have had the opportunity of conducting an Italian Genealogy seminar in Mesa, AZ at the FamilySearch Library Training Center on 19 September 2012.

We had a very good turnout. Many Italian genealogy resource topics were discussed, including:
Precisely what it was that got me started almost 23 years ago
What records are available now, and we even discussed
The Onciari records for Southern Italy which–for the most part–were completed by 1745.

If you have Ancestors from Southern Italy, I have access to those records. I can not only get you started where you might be now, but eventually connect you to your family lines in those records as well. Every town or hamlet in Southern Italy had to produce a book for the King of Italy for tax purposes.

The Catasti Onciari of 1742 records are primarily in the Archives of Naples, Italy. The catasti are among the most important resources for the study of the social & economic history of Southern Italy, to include family genealogy back into the 1700s!

Many attendees’ Italian ancestry research questions were answered.

I was mostly pleased with the opportunity I had to express my feelings about my love for the people of Italy–most importantly, my love for helping others to find their Italian roots and to be their Italian Genealogist for their family.

6. My husband and I met Jeff Skousen while serving a mission, at the Family History Library, in Mesa, AZ.

It was as though we knew one another the moment we met. Me and my husband were wondering who we would be able to help us with our Italian Ancestry.

Jeff was immediately able to find several generations of my Italian ancestors in Cino, Sondrio, Italy.

Years later, he was able to travel to Italy, where he met our daughter who was living in Naples, Italy at the time. He also met a dear friend of ours from Naples and together they were able to obtain Onciari records from the archives in Naples, Italy dating back to 1742, for Jeffs family along with a few other families.

Time is money and Jeff skousen saved us more time and money than we could have imagined.

We remain close friends to this day and always try to get together when he comes to town to do Genealogical research here in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Family History Library.
